Dr. Andrew I. Kessler practices general eye care and specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma, refractive surgery and other diseases of the eye. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing full time in Carroll County since 1990.
Dr. Kessler received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree with honorsfrom the University of Pennsylvania’s Faculty of Arts & Sciences in 1979. He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree with Honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. He was awarded the Stuart Mudd Award for microbiology research and the Jack C Clarke prize upon graduation from medical school.
After completing his internship at the Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania hospital in 1987, Dr. Kessler completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Maryland Hospital. Dr. Kessler served as Chief Resident of the Department of Ophthalmology his final year. Dr. Kessler received his board certification in ophthalmology in 1992, and was recertified in 2002 and 2012.
Dr. Kessler has been a leader in advancing new technology to Carroll County. He is proud to have been involved in the introduction of many advances in eye care and eye surgery. These accomplishments include Radial Keratotomy, No-stich cataract surgery, foldable lens implants, ultrasound removal of cataracts, Lasik, Laser-assisted cataract surgery, correction of astigmatism, and multifocal lens implants.
Dr. Kessler became Medical Director of the Carroll County Eye Surgery Center after the center opened in May of 2004. The center has the best equipment and most experienced staff he has ever worked with. He is very proud of what he and the other owners have accomplished at the center. He performs all of his cataract procedures at the center.
Martin Weintraub has been practicing medical and surgical ophthalmology in Westminster since 1983. A Board Certified Ophthalmologist, the 1979 graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine completed an internal medicine internship at the Washington Hospital Center and went on to an ophthalmology residency at the University of Maryland Hospital. He served as Chief Resident in his last year.
When Dr. Weintraub began treating patients in Westminster, Carroll County General Hospital did not support modern eye surgery. All eye patients at the time traveled to GBMC or other hospitals. It was at Dr. Weintraub’s insistence that Carroll County added state-of-the-art ophthalmic surgery to its regular services. For over twenty years, patients from Westminster and the surrounding areas have benefited from this expansion into first-rate surgical eye care.
With the opening of the first outpatient eye surgery center in 2004, patients enjoy greater convenience for their eye care needs. Dr. Weintraub took an active role in the establishment of this outpatient facility and served as its first medical director. Dr. Weintraub met his wife Susan when they were undergraduates at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They have three children.
